Methylsulfonylmethane, known as MSM, is found in many vegetables, fruits, and animals. MSM is a metabolite of DMSO, Dimethyl Sulfoxide. There are a few synonyms for MSM, including DMSO2, methyl sulfone, sulfonylbismethane and dimethyl sulfone.
MSM is used to treat arthritis pain, and it is also used to heal general pain as well. In addition, MSM has other functions such as helping with sleep, repairs of muscles, and even the treatment of diabetes. The dosage for administering MSM is usually 1 to 3 grams on a daily basis. MSM is water soluble, hence it is used in powdered drinks and used for encapsulation purposes as well.
UniChem Enterprises Inc. provides both MSM 40 mesh and MSM 80 mesh. MSM 40 mesh is mainly used for encapsulation. MSM 80 mesh is a finer powder, thus it is great for powdered drinks because of its solubility.
